GIVING TUESDAY – TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 28TH
On the heels of Black Friday and Cyber Monday comes Giving Tuesday, a national movement that kicks off the charitable season by encouraging giving to local non-profits. Westside is a part of Georgia Gives (www.gagives.org) this year, so you can donate to Westside on Giving Tuesday by visiting this link.

WESTSIDE BOOK FAIR – DECEMBER 6TH – 8TH
Westside will be holding its annual book fair Wednesday, December 6th through Friday, December 8th, with a preview day for students and teachers on Tuesday, December 5th. Proceeds from the Book Fair go toward Community Council events and activities.
Hours and Dates for Book Fair
Tuesday, December 5th: Preview Day for classes
Wednesday, December 6th: 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 – 3:30 p.m.
Thursday, December 7th: 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 – 3:30 p.m.
Friday, December 8th: 7:30 – 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 – 3:30 p.m.

RISE UP AND DONATE TOYS – THURSDAY, DECEMBER 7TH
The Atlanta Falcons will face the New Orleans Saints on Thursday Night Football on December 7th and Westside wants to show our Falcons spirit! Students can wear their favorite Falcons gear or just enjoy a free dress day on December 7th. As a part of the spirit day, we are asking families to donate an UNWRAPPED, NEW toy for the Columbia Residential Toy Drive to be distributed to local children in need at their annual Deck the Halls event. There will be toy donation bins available in carpool between now and December 8th for all toy donations.

HOLIDAY CONCERT AND ART SHOW – TUESDAY, DECEMBER 12TH
Let the Holidays begin! Don’t miss the Westside Holiday Concert and Art Show on Tuesday, Dec 12th at Coretta Scott King Young Women’s Leadership Academy: 1190 Northwest Dr. NW 30318.

5:00 – 5:15 p.m. – All students please arrive in the auditorium at Coretta Scott King.
5:15 – 5:45 p.m. – Parents, please stroll through the Art Show and see what your kiddos have been creating! There will also be hot chocolate and cookies for sale. Proceeds will go toward the 6th grade trip to Washington, D.C. this spring.
5:45 p.m. – Auditorium doors open for seating.
6:00 p.m. – Concert begins

Our students have been working hard and we have planned a fun event. This year, in addition to all our artists, singers and drum line, we are happy to feature the Step group!

FIRST SEMESTER AWARDS CEREMONY
Students will be honored by their teachers at an awards ceremony on Thursday, December 21st. Parents are invited to attend this special morning. Please note the schedule below and plan to be there if you can!
8:15 – 9:15 a.m. – Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Grades
9:20 – 10:20 a.m. – 3rd and 4th Grades
10:30 – 11:15 a.m. – 5th and 6th Grades
11:30 a.m. – Early Release for all students
Holiday parties for Kindergarten through 4th grades will immediately follow their awards ceremonies. Middle grades holiday parties will be at 10:00 a.m.

PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCE SURVEY

UPCOMING FIELD TRIPS
Each student was provided a bright blue Westside t-shirt for field trips, courtesy of Zeus’ Closet, a local business owned by Westside board member and parent, Monica Allen. Please note the date of your child’s field trip and send them to school wearing their field trip t-shirt.

COMMUNITY COUNCIL OPTIONAL FAMILY DONATION
The Westside Community Council is collecting a suggested family donation of $30 per family for the 2017-18 school year. These donations will allow the Community Council to continue providing holiday gifts to the teachers and supporting teacher appreciation week, as well as holding events including the Fun Run and parent appreciation party, at no cost to our school community. We are grateful for any amount you are able to contribute! All Westside families are members of the Community Council and invited to all events regardless of their ability to contribute. Contributions can be made online on the Westside website under the Community Council section.
